New toy from the boss!!!

I got a nice surprise this week, my boss bought me a new 15 inch Macbook Pro. It's been several years since I've developed on a Mac and being back on one for the past 2 days I wonder how I did it.

I must say Macs have come a long way since I had one, but the over all feel is still the same. Clean, simple, and powerful, oh and the pad short cuts rock. I'm still working on getting my development environment setup for developing ColdFusion applications. So if any one has any suggestions on must have apps pay or free I just shouldn't develop with out, please post a comment and let me know.

P.S. Thanks Boss!!!

CFUnited day 2.

So far this has been a great conference. I've seen some great sessions that have gotten the creative juices flowing, plus I got to see my co-worker for the second time since I've been with my company. I wanna thank all the presenters I have seen so far. I wanted to add more blog posts but there is just so much going on and I know a lot of my fellow CF developers are posting detailed blog posts already.

I'm in my last session before dinner and the Adobe Pool Party.

jQuery Session at CFUnited

I went to two sessions on jQuery. The first one I saw was with Ray Camden. He went through all the basics and show some powerful stuff on what it can do. I started looking into it a few months ago but with my work load and not having a project to use it on it took a back burner.

Funny thing is the day before I left for CFUnited my 'boss' asked me to look at something a client sent. After a few min of looking at what they sent we both thought this was the best time to get into jQuery.

Right now I'm in Scott Stroz's session on CF and jQuery Perfect Together. He's talking about how CF works so well with jQuery.

Just finished up Ray's session, was great. He filled in all the gaps i had about some parts of the file. He promised to post his code tonight, but I'll look for it tomorrow. Headed to break then to jQuery.

CFMoBlog beta running.

I have the whole front end almost done, you can see it running here. I have no backend yet, which I will start after CFUnited. The software allows you to post messages from your phone, you can do just plain text messages or picture messages. I will be testing it a lot at CFUnited and making sure I have no bugs before I start on the admin section.

Some cool features to be brought online are:

yfrog and twitpic support for picture messages. You will be able to pick which one you use and any picture messages will be sent to your twitter account through one of them. If your message is just a text message you can post it to twitter with a shortened url link to the blog post. (haven't decided which one to use).

I have a lot to do but I'm hoping the beta release will be ready by September for download.

ColdFusion 9 cfpop problem with messagenumber

I was working on CFMoBlog testing it on ColdFusion 9 today and noticed my messages were not being deleted after the system posted them. I used 'messagenumber' to identify which message I was working on and all of them are set to zero in CF 9. I checked on my CF 8 server and all had a different number. I updated the code to use the UID and all was resolved. If your using messagenumber like I was just update it to UID.

So I started with Model-Glue after i installed them all. I started with the demo app and learned alot, but I have a long way to go. I wanted to have my first app done with MG done this week but work takes priority over my side projects. So I'm hoping to have it running next week. Till then thanks for all the feedback on the subject, I know it's a touchy one.

Which framework should I start with?

So over the weekend I started out checking out frameworks for ColdFusion. Out of all the blog posts, podcasts, and articles I could find I'm torn between ColdBox and Model-Glue.

I have been reading anything and everything on ColdBox and Model-Glue I could find. I have looked at the pros and cons of both but wanted to ask what you guys think?

Sneak peak - ColdFusion MoBlog

So over the winter I started working on another blog concept a mobile blog or MoBlog. With mobile phones being a part of everyone's lives and every mobile phone having a camera, what better way to keep family and friends up to speed with the kids. Or show off images at CFUnited conference or a road trip.

Now the code it no were near ready for release but it is a proof of concept. The hardest part was writing the function to parse out an email with an attachment. After that it's was easy. I'll be releasing a beta version soon, as time allows.

Ok I'm back to blogging...

I admit it I missed blogging and the social connections I made with all my CF friends. I have been very busy the last 18 months, we had another baby boy and it took all my time. Lots of work around the house and well don't get me started on work. I'm just happy we are staying busy.

I did do a lot of work on my blog system, which now includes two versions, a blog version and a MoBlog version. The MoBlog is very rough, but it does what it is programmed to do. I'll post more about it later though. As for the blog I have updated a lot of the code and added some cool features with a list a mile long for new features. One cool thing is I added multiple category system, so posts can be connected to more than one category.

Well time to submit to all the aggregators, and do so testing on the live server. Talk to you all soon.
